Visual network tool – Visualroute

VisualRoute

VisualRoute (current version is 11.1a) combines well known network tools like ping, traceroute, reverse DNS and Whois into nice graphical interface.

VisualRoute

With this tool you can quickly analyze Internet connection problems and locate network slowdowns. Actual route of connections and IP address locations are displayed on a global map. It includes very usable Route Table and Route Graph.

Live online demo is available at http://visualroute.visualware.com/. Must see!

VisualRoute is available only for Windows operating systems – 2000/XP/Vista – 😦 .

It has several trial versions and one free version for personal use only.

Standard features which are included in every VisualRoute version are:

  • Trace to any Remote IP or Domain from the VisualRoute Desktop or Server
  • Graphical View of Traceroute, Ping, Reverse DNS Connectivity Analysis
  • IP Location Reporting
  • Network Provider Reporting
  • Domain Whois Lookups
  • ICMP and UDP Traceroutes

I would recommend to everyone to try at least the live online demo or install the free version of VisualRoute.

Route Graph

Particular feature of VisualRoute that I like is Route Graph. As you can see in the picture below, every hop is displayed in a graph that categorizes them by round trip time.

My internet connection was very slow while I was making a trace to cisco.com, which is shown in the picture below.
